Face #46. Wire.

My husband is creating with wire today. I decided to join him, and use this original medium for my project!

Check out Justin's awesome wire creation HERE.

Face #45.

Did some pottery with family today :)
I wanted to make something with an indirect face. Something a little less obvious, I guess.

Face #44. Playdoh.

I felt a little guilty playing with playdoh at home by myself yesterday. I'll have to do it again with the kids soon.

Face #43. Bowtie.

Just to clarify, this is eyebrows and a mustache, not eyes and a mouth.
I'm mostly proud of the bowtie that I made out of an old pair of jeans.
The rest is duct tape.

Face #42. Awe.

Thursday's Face.
I was trying to capture the expression "awe".
Also, 10 points if you can guess who this is.

#41. Paper Dolls

Today I was watching Blue's Clues with the kids, and Blue's "felt friends" were playing dress-up with all of their awesome costumes. I thought it would be fun to make some little friends for the kids to play dress-up with. The opportunities are endless if we're the ones making the costumes! I didn't have any felt, so I made paper dolls.

I've made paper dolls before, but it's so much more fun with the intention of actually playing with them.

Face #39.

I did some finagling with yesterday's drawing, and it seems a little more familiar now.

Face #38.

Sunday's face.
So tired, I was trying so hard just to keep my eyes open while drawing this (excuses, excuses). Eventually I gave up and went to bed.
This is Joe, and unrecognizable nobody.

Face #37. Beach Day.

We went to our camping spot today. It was windy and freeeEEEEzzzzzing, but the sunshine was out so it was still nice. I decided to use my trusty boots to draw again. Ahh, I love sand, I love the beach, I can't wait for summer and camping.

Face #36.

Did this one yesterday...

#35. Breakfast Monster

Today I decided to follow a prompt from Noah Scalin's book 365: A Daily Creativity Journal.
The assignment was to make something with my breakfast.

I know, it looks kind of disgusting. But it was really delicious.

I don't actually have the book (365: A Daily Creativity Journal), but I've checked out a few blogs of people who have been following it, and I definately recommend the book for anyone who would like some creative inspiration!

#34.

This picture went from going really well in the beginning, to a big hideous mess in the middle, and in the end, a not quite so hideous mess.
All in all, I'd say it was an ok experience. Maybe worth it. Maybe not.

#31. Moonface.

Something very different for today.

The Man on the Moon. Created with Microsoft Paint.

Face #30. Faceless.

I may be cheating by reusing my silhouettes for another project... especially considering they have no real faces to begin with. But weren't you wondering what I was going to do with them?

I admit that landscapes are not my strong point (or is it a seascape?), but the only way to learn is by trying.

Face #29.

I was looking at some watercolor portraits online today, and I realized that I have a problem. I can't just appreciate someone else's artwork without being jealous! I had to try it myself. I'm pretty excited though, because after a long day I didn't get to start my project until close to midnight, but I still had the motivation to get out all of my painting stuff and whip something out. This is not normal for me - but I have a feeling it might become that way!

There was some drippage from the left eye while I was trying to take a picture of it. Darn.
Do you recognize this face???

Also, today I was thinking that it would be fun to start taking photos of people to use as references for my artwork. This would be good for several reasons:
1. Social interaction.
2. Photography practice.
3. Variety.
4. Fun.

So... if you have a face and would like to volunteer to be my model, just let me know.

Face #28.

I worked with birch bark for over an hour trying to create something that never turned out how I had hoped. I then cut something ugly out of a magazine page. Another failure. I was so frustrated that I went outside and started kicking snow around with my boots.

#27. Silhouettes.

I love making these little cutouts with my x-acto knife. It's easy to get attached to the little curled up paper people. I do have a plan for them though, so they won't be curled up forever.

I'm thankful to have two little models handy and always willing to do silly poses for me.

Face #26. Garden (Part 2).

And I finished it today....

It sure would be nice to go outside and play in a garden right now....

Face #25. Garden (Part 1).

I was sick yesterday... so I managed to start this drawing but didn't have the energy to post it.

#24. Face Cards.

This is supposed to be my husband and I as the King and Queen of Hearts. I drew the faces on paper and then edited them on paint to make the cards.

Face #23.

I am so embarrassed to be actually posting this. What I wanted was to try to draw a caricature... but this is very disappointing. I went a little overboard with the red marker. Ugh. Maybe in the morning it won't look so bad.

Face #21. Happy.

A quick pencil sketch. Someone (hi, Mom!) suggested that I try to capture facial expressions. So this is my first in that category. Not very original - happy!

Face #20. Reach.

This is a record of my earliest post yet!!!
I found my subject at breakfast today :)

Face #19. Kites.

I made a collage similar to this a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't quite turn out as I had hoped. One thing that has been frustrating with collages is that the paper curls up.... I noticed that some artists use a block of wood as a canvas, which is kind of cool because you can just hang it straight on the wall without a frame. I asked my hubby if he had any spare boards laying around that might work, and it just so happened that he had just torn a wall out of the bathroom (yes, that very day) of our 90 year old house that was full of cedar boards with old newspapers plastered to them. So I recycled them and got a pile of new wooden canvases!

It's a little messy, but I like that the kites are bigger and the people are smaller.

This is the original one:

Justin was bugging me because there's not really a face in today's piece - but I said, "They have faces! You just can't see them!"
I can make up my own rules! That's what great about this.

Face #18. Tiley.

We went tile shopping today, along with many other things. Got home late, rearranged our house, started thinking about going to bed and... oops, I almost forgot my face!
So I designed this very special tile face.

How do you think it will look on our bathroom floor???
